Mud Cabs

In the middle of all the snow and rain I had to go shoot photos at a rodeo yesterday. Peace out Half Cabs.
Uhm, it doesn't count when you fall. I love how at 1:06 the announcer says he set the record for "jumping of a structure and falling on to a landing". Yup.
By now you should have seen this. So sick.

Drum circles and incense

I keep meaning to put this up, but never seem to get around to it. A couple weeks ago SEE Magazine put out their "Best of Edmonton" issue. While I never put much stock in it, I always make a point of checking out the vote tally for Best Skateboard Shop. Now I know I'm more than a little biased, but seriously, FS is the best skateboard shop in Edmonton? Who the hell voted? While the members of the FS team that I've met were cool, and I didn't immediately hate them (pretty much my highest praise), on the issue of service alone, FS should never win. Have you ever walked into FS? It feels like you're being retail dry humped by the staff the moment you walk in.
"Hey, how's it going? You looking for some new shoes?"
What? No I was just ...
"Pants? How about pants? Man, we just got a whole bunch of sick LRG pants in!"
Um ...
"Aren't those new Osiris sick?"
Actually I never really ...
"Yeah they rule! They'd match this flexfit hat so good!"
And it doesn't let up.
Now far be it for me to tell FS how to run their business, hell I mean people are voting them the best in Edmonton after all, but back off! Who ever is enforcing this employee insanity, as I can't believe it's voluntary, cut it out. I seriously avoid your store because I can't stand another uncomfortably intense conversation with your employees about a shoe I happened to glance at.
In the end it doesn't really matter as I shop exclusively at Sports Depot anyway.

Rearview Mirror

An Open Letter to ... I don't know ... the world.
Please, please stop crashing your cars into me. I can't take it anymore. Junkies in stolen cars, lying old ladies, and finally hillbillies who can't be bothered to look behind them when they pull out of a freaking parking space. I mean come on Karma, what have you got against me? Oh right the envy, the hate, the sloth, etc. etc. etc.
Above: There was a horrible car crash near the hotel pool.

Warning! Warning!

You know when you want to go skating, but there are alarm bells going off in your head screaming, "You're going to hurt yourself! You're going to hurt yourself!" I mean you go anyway, but those bells are always wailing away in the background, until you finally and inevitably hurt yourself. That's the kind of day I had today. I showed up at the park having not quite decided if I was actually going to stop and get out of the car. But it was awesome. There was maybe ten guys at the park and I either knew them, or they were all cool. Even the uncomfortably hyped guy. You know, the guy who's so hyped on skateboarding that it borders on homeless person lunacy. Super good day ... until my board karate chopped my achilles yet again.
Shane's Barlow's backlip wasn't there, but its sick. This guys been killing it.

Lazy Lazy Lazy

I guess I've still been stuck in holiday mode, because I've been totally lagging on the updates. Here's a photo of Nathan Bartlett crushing a blunt to fakie during a "Magic hour" session. Once I shoot a photo I pretty much hold onto it like grim death, in the hopes of getting it published somewhere. It doesn't always work out. Sorry Nathan we got shot down this time.
I was in Plush the other day, when in walks Reese Forbes. We made a silly photo to commemorate the visit. I don't remember seeing this video of Reese before. Crazy!

Places Exciting

Surfing was fun, but really frustrating. The way it's always portrayed in the movies is like some sort of new age/hippie connection between Mother Earth, the ocean, and man. If I, on the other hand, had the ability of Superman's laser eyes, I would have been incinerating small children on the beach in rage, after having the surfboard nose dive underneath me for the millionth time. Granted, I never tried the above advertised skinboarding.
