Washington Street

All the snow and cold was really bumming me out, so I took a brief break from reality last week and went and did some skating down south.
Above: After Washinton Street we hit up this amazing bank to curb spot. Crazy fun. I don't know how this wasn't in every early 90's video.
When I was kid growing up in Winnipeg there weren't really any skateparks. Certainly none that lasted for any length of time. Every once in a while a rumor of a new indoor park would surface. In this pre-internet era you'd have no way of verifying any of the sketchy park information floating around. It would usually take a couple of weeks before I'd be able to piece together enough vague hearsay to get a general location of the park. Walking into that park, in the nondescript warehouse, on the wrong side of town for the first time, was always intimidating. The older, cool guys would already be there smoking, generally crushing the park, and snaking the shit out of the little kooks like me. That feeling is exactly how I felt when I rolled through the entrance to Washington Street. I was immediately that little kid who could barely drop-in, afraid of getting in the big kids way, and just trying my hardest not to slam on my face.
Above: In this pic you get a pretty clear view of the park's gnarly parking block coping.
