Old Man Look at My Life

Above: Nile backside ollie. Nile's style in this photo really reminds me of Nathan's. (Click to enlarge)
It used to be that the young guns new their place. Stairs, handrails, and gaps were all theirs. Mini ramps, 1/4 pipes, and bowls were ours. Transition was the sole, and undisputed territory of the old and ever so slightly beer bellied. Not any more. The young guns have broken the truce. It used to be that we could watch them casually throw a switch 3 flip around and enviously mutter under our breath, "Yeah, but can he do a frontside grind on pool coping?". Well now we got 12 year-olds landing 1080's and everyone else seems to be quickly turning on to how awesome it feels to roll away after grinding a piece of concrete coping. As far as I'm concerned the whole world's gone to hell. I remember when we had to walk up hill, both ways, through the snow, to get to the skate park. And boards, don't get me started on board's. They were twenty inches wide and cost a nickle. Actually when I started skating there were no skateparks and boards were at least as expensive as they are now, so what do I know. Maybe I'm just bitter that I got absolutely destroyed in a game of 1/4 pipe SKATE by these upstarts tonight.
This.
This.
