Mudry

Ty Mudry feeble grind during a Plush team trip to Calgary. I always liked how the rail looked like it was glowing.

Kellan

Kellan Chilibeck back-smith. I remember he slammed a lot in order to get this. The run up was ridiculous. He had 5 or 6 janky pieces of metal out to cover all the cracks and gaps. The picture ran big in an old SBC. I was stoked.

Mill Woods

Above: Kevin ollies the channel.
When I heard they were going to cut out and replace the bottom few feet of all the transitions at Mill Woods, I was skeptical about the results. But damn if they didn't do a great job. It's actually really weird skating Mill Woods and not having to dodge the huge cracks and gaps any more. Of course one has to wonder about the wisdom of doing all this work right before winter hits and the cements buckles again.

Mastrovito 5-0 over the hip.

Lay back 5-0 by another Kevin. I think I'm going to start referring to all the Local 124 guys as "Kevins".

Book Report

I need this book.

Skate History

This guy's skate photos are old and rad. Photo: Terry Terrebonne

Jess

It was a nice surprise to run into Mr. Atmore at the park the other day. I think he was in town just long enough to have all his wisdom teeth pulled. Here's a super old photo of Jess and all his teeth, messing around on a banana board.

Tee Hee

I found this on an old school note pad of mine. I always thought this was super funny. It reminds me of a time when skaters and bladers were like the Bloods and the Crips.

Now kids are waxing the skateparks so much rollerbladers are saying, "Hey Roline. Chill out on that wax man." While I think the thawing of skate/blade relations can probably be partially linked to some sort of mutual wax love, I figure it probably has more to do with the invention of razor scooters and snake boards. That shit makes rollerblades look dope. Plus I've yet to see a suburban soccer mom pull up to the park in a mini van and dump off 15 kids with rollerblades. Anything else seems to be a go though - Big Wheels, pogo sticks, scooters, mountain bikes, wagons, heelies, remote control cars, unicycles. How awesome would it be if Consolidated made a sticker where the guy was throwing a big wheel.

Max

I remember back when I first started skating and I thought that Tony Hawk was the best. He won all the contests. It was that simple for me at the time. I seriously remember reading magazines where they would talk about how awesome someone else was and I would think they were crazy. "Tony can do all the tricks! Are they nuts? Why even talk about anyone else?" It would take me a long time before I finally recognized style and realized how blind I had been.
I figure the groms of today must watch Ryan Scheckler and think us old guys at the skatepark are out of our minds. "How the hell could they not love Scheckler? He wins every contest!"
Ten years from now it'll come to them. It took me a long time. When Fourstar started and they put Max on, I thoug
ht they were crazy.
Both of these are pretty old news but so rad.
He's right about style. You just need to see someone push once and you can tell.

Dropping weight

I'm in the process of moving, but I don't like lifting stuff. So, I've been trying to throw out as much of my life as possible. The more I get rid of stuff, the better I feel. It's like I'm taking off a weight I didn't realize I was carrying.

Some stuff I just give away. These skate videos didn't make the cut and are now on their way to a Kamloops window display.

These DVDs get to stay. I know that Blind one is suspect, but it has Video Days hidden on it as a special feature.

Today when I reach for a dvd to watch, it's usually one of these two. Funny that they're both freebies. Well they were supposed to be free. I paid five dollars for the Creature one in Tokyo, but that's another story.

Don't know if I'll ever watch this tape again, but couldn't bring myself to get rid of it.

Or this one. Didn't have the internet, but still wasn't paying for videos. I think a video back then was probably $40. I doubt I'd ever held $40 at that point. I was mixing up sawdust and Elmers glue to fill the giant chips in my boards. More than once I made a whole new tail for a board out of that soggy mess.

Hensley

Growing up, I was a huge Matt Hensley fan. Now there's a tribute out to his Hokus Pokus video part. Super Rad. This song will be with me forever.

Auto reverse/high speed dubb

Hauled a heavy box out of storage the other day to rediscover my audio tape collection. I was a big fan of the band ALL, so therefore, I liked pretty much anything Cruz Records put out.

Like most groms my musical tastes were heavily driven by the music in skate videos.

We didn't have the internet but we had plenty of blank tapes and high speed dubbing. The dinosaur graphic is a straight lift from a Calvin and Hobbes comic.

Just when I was thinking how rad I was I pulled this out. What the hell!

Found this tape in the Missus' tape collection though.

Stick-O-Rama

I'm in the process of moving and one of the things that has to go is my skate sticker covered dresser. I haven't put any stickers on it for years, but it's still home to a couple rad ones.

This is a funny Droors Clothing sticker. Droors turned into DC Shoes I believe.

The first sticker on the dresser. A very early Caballero graphic.

I'm not sure, but this might be from before Lucero started Black Label.

What ever happened to Acme?

This sticker came with a pair of Full Cabs shoes. I really wanted the Half Cabs, but they weren't available in Winnipeg yet, so I bought these and cut them down to Half Cabs.

SK8 Skates shop sticker.

Old Plush stickers. I think I got these the first time I met Suggitt.

Free to a good home. Three out of four working drawers.

Garage Sale

I was cleaning out my storage locker the other day and found a pile of old boards. I figured as crappy as they were, some grom somewhere in the city had to be riding a worse board. So, I tried to think of the most ghetto skatepark where I could dump these boards.

I didn't have to think about it too hard.

The kid on the left snagged the complete while the other one sifted through the rest.
